Earning The Patch: The Fabric of Brotherhood

Earning the patch

Your patch isn’t just the emblem of your service. Your patch broadcasts a message about you and says to the world that you belong to the brotherhood of emergency services. But simply having and wearing that patch doesn’t make you part of that brotherhood.  You should be proud to wear your patch, badge, hat, or T-shirt, but what it says about you, what it says about all of us, must be earned every single day that you wear it. In station, on scene and everywhere in between, a million little things we do either earn us the patch or show us as someone who is simply pretending. In this stirring talk Rom Duckworth speaks about the role of emergency services in our society and how members of our elite group must honor and earn these emblems every time we put them on.

Learning Objectives: Students will be able to:

-Effectively integrate ideas and opinions from EMS organization members of different age-groups and backgrounds.

-Identify fundamental priorities in their EMS organization to achieve core mission goals.
